Ewe Flock Size 230 Scottish Blackface ewes in hill system;
60 crossbred (Suffolk-X, Texel-X, Bluefaced Leicester-X) ewes in lowland system
Ram Breeds S Blackface, Texel & Beltex
Flock Replacements Homebred, 80 hill breed and 15 crossbreds
Crossbred flock housed in winter and lambed indoors
Hill flock wintered on the hill and lambed on green land
Lambing in mid march for crossbred flock and early April for hill flock

Lambs reared per ewe to ram (‘08 season)
  • Hill system: 1.17
  • Lowland system: 1.9
Concentrate Usage relatively high inputs for lowland system in 2008; some supplement to hill flock replacements in winter
