Teagasc Advisory

Welcome to the Mayo website which is now available to  our clients and  contains relevant and up-to-date information.  For many farmers, farming today presents many challenges.  I urge all dairy and drystock farmers in Mayo to avail of the most relevant technical and financial advice from our team of advisers.  Why not commit to completing a Profit Monitor to help analyse your farm business or plan your future with a five year Business Plan or avail of the Options Programme.

In Mayo maintaining good water quality and expanding the county’s biodiversity are very important areas. Teagasc Mayo through its Environment and REPS Planning Service will continue to help our clients to contribute significantly to this effort.  Teagasc Mayo has a proud tradition of providing a range of education courses with knowledge transfer now a cornerstone of our programmes.  Maintaining the rural farm population is one of our key objectives, along with our stakeholders we support rural development initiatives by providing advice and formal education courses to clients planning worthwhile projects.

I wish all our clients success with their farming efforts and urge farmers in Mayo to continue to avail of Teagasc advice.

This site gives you full up to date information on  Agriculture in the Mayo Regional Unit including our staff, our Advisory Programmes and Services, and our Advisory and Educational public events and courses.  It also has links to other sites within Teagasc.

Through our four major programmes: Business and Technology; Environment and Good Farm Practice; Rural Development; and Adult Education and Training, we provide a comprehensive range of services.  In that range, we believe there is something to enhance every farmer’s operation, regardless of enterprise, scale, age or gender. Our Business , Technology , and  Environment Programmes provides valuable advice and assistance on the Technical, Financial and Environmental management of farms through farm visits, office consultations, farm walks, discussion groups, Today’s Farm magazine, seminars, conferences and a range of other events. TResearch is Teagasc’s research and innovation magazine. The Summer 2009 issue of TResearch features a special section on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for the Dairy Industry'.

We have also streamlined the production and distribution of our technical newsletters which are sent to all our clients monthly.  These cover dairy, beef, sheep and tillage every month, with additional newsletters covering areas such as forestry, farm management, rural development and the environment, periodically. The newsletters are written by our specialists to provide you with expert advice, taking account of the up-to-date conditions and latest events.

Another development is the Teagasc/ Farmers Journal “BETTER” farm programme, based on the application of up-to-date practical research on farms. I believe that over time this will further enhance our transfer of technical, business and environmental knowledge to assist in farm development.

Our Rural Development Programme provides  comprehensive advice and assistance on all aspects of on and off farm alternative enterprise development and small business development .Through our Adult Training Programme courses ranging from the Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (ACA) to REPS courses, Internet courses, Farm Safety ,Financial and short Technical courses are provided to   all Adult farmers.     Within all Advisory Programmes we provide comprehensive assistance on all Department of Agriculture Schemes and Services.
