Thursday October 22, Kilbride Community Centre, Fourmilehouse, Co. Roscommon

Teagasc, the Forest Service and COFORD are organising a National Demonstration on broadleaf management and thinning in Co. Roscommon on Thursday October 22. This event is mainly aimed at landowners whose broadleaf plantations are at or near the first thinning stage. However, all forest owners or landowners who are considering broadleaf forestry will find it useful to gain an appreciation of the management of broadleaves.
The following topics will be discussed:

An exciting feature of the demonstration will be a short practical hands-on session during which the participants will have an opportunity to select and mark potential crop trees to be retained and competitors/inferior trees to be removed.
The session will demonstrate timber extraction and a number of extraction machinery options will be on display. Safe chainsaw use and the importance of appropriate training will be highlighted. Tending and thinning broadleaves are essential investments for the future of your crop. This is a great opportunity to acquire the know-how to get the job done.
Event is free. Please bring wellies and waterproof clothes - just in case!
