Forestry research
Farm
forestry has increased in importance in recent years, resulting in a
demand for knowledge and solutions at farm level.
Teagasc has responded to this increasing demand by expanding its forestry research programme and resources. There are currently five forestry researchers and six forestry technicians dedicated to the programme. It covers research on silviculture, tree improvement and quantification of forest materials to optimise market outlets and is based at Teagasc, Athenry and Teagasc, Kinsealy.
In addition, the Teagasc forestry development officers are instrumental in facilitating the research programme by interacting with land owners and identification of local resources and problems. The majority of the research is conducted in privately owned farm forestry plantations.
