Pharmacist Turns to Horticulture

A pharmacist who has changed her career to horticulture has won the top student of the year award at the Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture, Botanic Gardens.

Elizabeth Cowap from Baldoyle, Co. Dublin, was presented with the top student award by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern.

Elizabeth completed the Diploma in Horticulture run jointly by the College of Amenity Horticulture and Blanchardstown Institute of Technology. She is now pursuing further horticultural studies in Scotland.

The three-year Diploma in Horticulture course, now called the Bachelor of Science in Horticulture is provided by three Teagasc college/institute of technology partnerships:

  • College of Amenity Horticulture, Botanic Gardens and Blanchardstown Institute of Technology
  • Kildalton College of Horticulture, Piltown, Co Kilkenny and Waterford Institute of Technology
  • Warrenstown Horticultural College, Drumree, Co. Meath and Blanchardstown Institute of Technology

Applications for the course are through the Central Applications Office (CAO). The closing for applications for courses commencing in September 2005 is 1 February 2005
