Apple Open Day at Teagasc, Kildalton

Teagasc are organising an Apple Open Day in Kildalton College on Thursday next, September 8th. The event is being run in conjunction with Irish Apple Growers Association.
According to Harry O’Brien, Teagasc Fruit Specialist the day is an opportunity to meet and exchange views among other growers.
Teagasc covered at the event will included the Kildalton Spray Programme for Apples as well as information on Grower Trails. Bernard Rice, from Teagasc, Oak Park, will give a demonstration on setting of sprayer for tree spraying. Dan Foster from Koppert Ltd will speak on the Biological Central of Red Spider Mite and on pollination with the Bumble Bee.
In welcoming all those involved in apple production, Harry O’Brien concluded “With over 600 hectares of commercial apple orchards in the county, managed by approximately 40 commercial growers apple production is a significant niche enterprise in Ireland”.
