Science Research to Underpin Opportunities for Meat Industry

18 August 2006

The 52nd International Congress on Meat Science and Technology which has been taking place in Dublin this week, drew to a close today Friday August 18. Next year the congress moves to Beijing in China.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chairman of the ICoMST committee and Head of the Teagasc Ashtown Food Research Centre, Declan Troy said "it has been an extremely successful congress. Ireland has benefited enormously from the knowledge shared by the worlds leading meat scientists with delegates at the Congress this week."

"As Ireland strives to build a knowledge based economy, the contributions from the scientific speakers, will help to shape the research pursued in the future, not just by ourselves in the Teagasc Ashtown Food Research Centre, but by all those involved in meat research in the country."

"The friendships formed at the meat congress over the last week, will help to forge closer links between Irish and international scientists over the coming years," he said.
