17th International Nitrogen Workshop "Nitrogen - the future"

Date Venue
27th -29th June 2012 Wexford Opera House, Wexford

Scope

With the price of fertiliser nitrogen rising, a new series of questions emerge on the role of nitrogen in sustainable food security. How can we make best use of all forms and transformations of nitrogen available to agriculture? Can we account for all forms of nitrogen, or are we still pursuing missing links in the nitrogen cycle? Which technologies can reduce inadvertent losses of nitrogen in a holistic way? Will the rising cost of nitrogen stop us from reaching the global production potential – and from meeting the growing demand for food? Are there viable alternatives to fertiliser nitrogen in a post-peak oil era? And how can we bridge the widening gap between ever-more specialised research and the knowledge requirements of farmers and policy makers?

New questions demand new answers.

Therefore, the 17th International Nitrogen Workshop will focus on iNNovations, with a capital N, for sustainable use of nitrogen resources. New breakthroughs in science; new breakthroughs in knowledge transfer, new breakthroughs in management of nitrogen resources. We need innovative solutions to meet the challenges of 2050, and this Workshop will provide the platform to discuss the challenges and solutions. To facilitate this discussion, each of the N workshop sessions will focus on a central pertinent question. Together, we will endeavour to answer each question in workshop style. We look forward to your contribution.
