Options in Rural Tourism

The tourist wants a place to stay, something to eat and something to do. Farm families who have developed a successful rural tourism business are acutely aware of this and have targeted one or more of these needs.  The full package of accommodation, food and activity needs to be available in the locality - it doesn't have to be provided by the same person.  Good businesses are built on filling a gap in the market, complementing existing products, doing things that bit better / in a more innovative way that the competition.

 

 

Accommodation

Provision of accommodation is the most common form of Rural Tourism and includes Bed & Breakfast, Self-Catering, Caravan & Camping and Hostelling. Read more


 

Activity

Tourists travel to a destination for what they can DO.  The activity is what attracts visitors to an area despite the fact that we often regard accommodation as more important Accommodation is secondary and only features in the recollection of the visitor if it’s of very good or very bad quality.  Quality accommodation is taken as a basic essential.  Activities are the core of the holiday and are the most important factor when someone is selecting a holiday.  Read more
