Course Aim
This course provides students with the opportunity to acquire farm management skills and knowledge to efficiently manage and carry out duties associated with the day-to-day and long term management of large commercial farms. The course is suitable for those:
- Preparing to take over the family farm
- Seeking employment as farm managers
- Seeking employment in the agri-business service sector
- Transferring to year three of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Waterford IT
Location
On approved master farms. Course work is provided on a day release basis on local/regional farms (including master farms). In addition, block release courses are provided at Clonakilty Agricultural College.
Entry Requirements and Application Procedure
Students who have successfully completed the FETAC Advanced Certificate in Agriculture or equivalent are eligible to apply. Applications should be made to the Principal, Clonakilty College.
Course Structure and Content
Students are placed on two master farmers – one year with each. Coursework consists of a series of day release courses, which are run on a discussion group basis and relate to the on-farm projects being completed. Up to three weeks of block release courses are held in Clonakilty College.
Progression
Students who achieve merit or distinction awards are eligible to apply for direct entry to year three of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture - Level 7 at Waterford IT.
