Irish Agriculture and the EU 50 years on, a journey through 50 years of Ireland’s EU membership.

On Friday, 27 October at the Teagasc Research Centre, Ashtown, a dynamic half-day conference jointly organised by Teagasc and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine took place. The event examined the remarkable impact on 50 years of farming and food production while exploring the future of Irish agriculture. It was a celebration of history and a glimpse into the future!

Dr Emma Dillon, Teagasc economist takes us on a journey of the changing structure of Irish agriculture over the last 50 years

Clare O'Keeffe, farms in north Cork and contract rears cattle. In this clip Clare provides an overview of her pathway in agriculture, from attending Kildalton Agricultural College in 1979/1980 to completing a Masters Degree in UCD in 2020.

Liam Doherty and his daughter Ellen provide an insight into their farming and educational backgrounds and how farming practices have changed since Ellen began studying in Kildalton Agricultural College in Co. Kilkenny.

Sandra Hayes, Teagasc-Tirlán Future Farm Programme Co-Ordinator caught up with the Bowden family who farm outside Urlingford in Co. Kilkenny and who have have been clients of Teagasc for over the last 40 years. The Bowden family, parents Denis and Eileen, and son Paul provided an overview of their experiences over the years with the Teagasc Advisory Service, and how being a client has helped them improve their farm, farming knowledge and farming system over the years.
