Teagasc Beef Webinar
By Sean Doorley
Teagasc Roscommon/Longford will be holding a Beef Webinar on the 16th December at 7pm on Zoom. This is a new venture for the local Advisory service, as we are unable to hold our usual seminars with farmers, due to Covid-19.
The one hour webinar, which will be facilitated by Seán Doorley, Beef Advisor Longford, James Kelly, Beef Advisor Roscommon, who will be discussing ‘The Beef Emergency Aid Measure’ or BEAM. Farmers received payment for BEAM in December 2019. To comply with the requirements of the scheme, farmers must cut their stocking rates by 5% in relation to cattle livestock nitrogen figures. The Department of Agriculture have calculated a reference nitrogen figure for cattle for each farmer participating running from 1st July 2018 to 30th June 2019. The Department of Agriculture want a 5% reduction on this figure to take place on your farm between the 1/07/2020 and the 30/06/2021 respectively. The clock has started ticking from 1st July 2020 and will run for 12 months and the 5% reduction must take place during this period. Practical examples of how to meet the 5% reduction will be presented by James Kelly on the webinar.
The second speaker on the evening will be Shane Devaney, Beef Advisor Longford who will be discussing Control of parasites in Beef cattle over the winter. Shane will be presenting on how best to control fluke, worms and lice on cattle that are now housed. He will be covering faecal egg sampling and also looking at the different types of products that are available to farmers to use.
On the webinar there will be a chance for attendees to submit questions through the Q & A tab. To register the for the webinar, farmers will have to have an email address.
