Project Title: Understanding the effect of legume-based mixtures on the soil microbiome for improving resource use efficiency and yield sustainability
Overview: This project aims to quantify how multispecies swards affect the structure and function of the soil microbiome, and thus use this information to enhance resistance and resilience to climatic change. I became interested in this area of study while completing my undergraduate in plant science in Trinity College. I believe that improving agricultural practices to increase yields, while remaining environmentally stable is imperative to our survival. I wish to pursue a career as a research scientist, focusing mainly on improving agricultural practices relating to crops, soils and the environment.
