Project Title: Evaluation of Sustainable Beef farming systems

Overview: The aim of this project is to compare cattle farming systems which rely mainly on grasslands and agri-industrial resources that are inedible for humans for humans and compare their systems sustainability with cattle production systems which use feedstuffs that can be used for human consumption. I am involved in the SUSTAINBeef project. This is an ERA-Net project with partners in 5EU member states (including Teagasc and UCD in Ireland) exmining the sustainability of grass-based beef production systems within the EU.

Growing up on a farm in Co. Westmeath, this area of study really appealed to me. Furthermore, it incorporates two of my biggest passions in life; beef farming and the environment. I am always looking to explore new options and innovations within the beef industry and this project is an idyllic way of doing just that.
