Project Title: Grass-forage and concentrate beef: production and quality attributes
Overview: There is little research information on rearing and finishing progeny from the suckler beef herd on grass-forage diets solely (without concentrates). The aim of this study is to:
- Produce beef with a system of production where lifetime diets are based on forage only (grazed pasture and grass silage)
- Compare animal and grass growth and output from different grazing systems
- To compare the meat quality of ‘grass-fed beef’ vs ‘concentrate fed beef’.
I am interested in this area of study as I grew up on a beef farm in Co. Wexford and I am always looking to explore new options within the beef industry. Furthermore monitoring animal and grass growth has always being something which I enjoyed doing on my home farm.
