Science Week 2023 at Teagasc Grange

Event description: This event shows how science can help to reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment. This is a great opportunity for your students to hear first-hand from our PhD students about the Irish agriculture industry and the current research work they are doing that will future-proof the sustainability of Irish agriculture. This event is for 5th and 6th year students and no prior knowledge of agricultural science is needed.

Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture College and Careers open day

Event description: Find out all about future career prospects and placement opportunities for students in the wonderful world of horticulture. This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet and interact with industry representatives, college teachers, and current students, who are all going to be present on the day.
Open Day for Schools

Time: Two time slots available: 10am to 12 noon and 12 noon to 2pm
Location: Teagasc Ashtown Research Centre, D15 DY05
Event description: At Teagasc Ashtown Research Centre a large number of scientists carry out research related to food, horticulture, forestry and related areas. For Science Week, we are now inviting your school to bring a group of students to an open day to meet the researchers at the Centre.
Students will learn about the research that’s happening here, including aspects of food safety, new food packaging, healthy eating, reducing food waste, sensory analysis, insects, mushrooms and more. There will be opportunities to talk to the researchers and ask them questions about their work. The visit will include a tour of the mushroom unit to see mushrooms growing. The tour is aimed at Transition Year students, however, 5th or 6th year pupils are also welcome.
The event is free but must be pre-booked. To book email: library@teagasc.ie stating which timeslot you would prefer and the number of students you will bring.
Science Week Junior Farm Walk

Location: Paddy O’Keefe building, Moorepark
Event Description: Join our researchers in a celebration of science at Teagasc Moorepark’s “Science Week Junior Farm Walk” and find out about how their cutting-edge research in genetics, food production, technology and so much more is changing the world. Children on this tour will hear from scientists who work with cows, grass and soil about why they love science and all the cool experiments they do every day. They will also get a guided tour of the research farm and get to meet some cows.
