Abhishek Singh
Project Title: AshPath: Investigating the dieback fungal pathogen - Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, to secure the future of Fraxineus excelsior (European or Common Ash) on the island of Ireland
Overview: Abhishek graduated with his primary degree (BSc Honours) in botany from India. Having completed his master’s degree (MSc Research) in Plant Pathology, he has specialised in molecular biology and phytopathology. His research interests primarily focus on studying the interactions between plants and pathogens, particularly fungal pathogens that cause significant economic and environmental damage.
Currently, he is pursuing PhD at Teagasc in collaboration with University College Dublin on AshPath component of a larger project – AshforFuture. For his PhD research, he is investigating the interaction and molecular dynamics of the invasive fungal pathogen – Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, causal agent for dieback disease of common or European ash trees (Fraxineus excelsior).
By combining his background in molecular biology and plant pathology, he strive to contribute to the sustainable management of dieback pathogen for the preservation of ash trees.
