Laxmi Namrata AdiviProject Title:

RUMINING: RUmen microbiome MINING for bacterial cultures to reduce methane

Overview: Hailing from Pune, India, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from Fergusson College, Pune, followed by a Master's in Microbiology from Jain University, Bengaluru. Further advancing my expertise, I pursued a second Master’s in Food Microbiology from University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. Currently, my PhD research focuses on RUMINING, where the primary goal is to deepen our understanding of rumen microbiology for sustainable food production by developing ruminant greenhouse gas mitigation strategies. Our focus involves exploring variations in rumen microbiomes, specifically bacterial and viral composition and function, between high and low methane-producing ruminants. Employing shotgun sequencing approaches and RNA sequence analysis, we seek to identify key pathways and mechanisms influencing methane reduction at the microbiome level. By conducting rumen fermentation profiling and shotgun sequencing to analyse microbial composition and function, we aim to decipher the mechanisms of action behind methane reduction.
