Project Title: Prevention and cure of clinical mastitis and associated AMR
Overview: Rachael is currently evaluating the prevalence, risk factors and aetiology of clinical mastitis in Irish spring calving dairy herds. Along with this, she aims to evaluate antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance in dairy cows.
The aim of this PhD is to contribute to the current efforts in preventing and controlling clinical mastitis. As well as that, Rachael aims to promote best practice during the housing period and encourage a high standard of hygiene during the milking routine.
Rachael graduated with a first class honours in Sustainable Agriculture from Dundalk IT in 2023. She is from Co. Westmeath and through her passion for dairy farming she developed a keen interest in animal health and diseases.
