Richa Evelyn Singh
Project Title: Quantifying the impact of hydrology on carbon and nitrogen cycling in agricultural peat soils
Overview: Richa is a Walsh Scholar who is a part of the Carbosol project. She is analysing the impact of drainage and rewetting on the carbon and nitrogen balance and their emission from peat soils. The research consists of two phases, first one is setting up an experimental unit at Teagasc farm, Johnstown Castle where the observations will be made in a controlled environment. The second phase constitutes the process of taking readings from fields and research sites under natural environmental conditions. This will help to understand the objectives in a better way. Understanding the C/N emissions from peat soils and their management will help in proper management of peat soils and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases from them. This will in turn help to tackle issue of climate change and global warming. Richa is specialised in Agronomy and has two years of work experience along with strong verbal, listening and writing skills. Previously, she has conducted field trials and has contributed to the scientific community by publishing articles in a scientific journal. She is looking forward to work for promoting agricultural sustainability through study and management of peat soils.
