Ronan O'Brien
Project Title: Unlocking Protein Resource Opportunities to Evolve Ireland’s Nutrition
Overview: Ronan is currently investigating the use of alternative and sustainable protein sources such as Irish seaweeds. Seaweed can be abundantly found along coastlines and are a rich source of protein, essential amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. Consumption of this type of protein in the human diet may have beneficial health benefits and reduce the dependency on other types of protein such as dairy and livestock leading to positive environmental change such as the reduction in methane and carbon dioxide. Ronan is experienced in analytical chemistry techniques as well as bioassays, cell culture, and bioprocessing techniques.
