Saeed Shahabi Ahangarkolaee
Project Title: Modelling the cost-effectiveness of implementing novel technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Irish farm systems
Overview: Saeed is a Ph.D. student at the University College Dublin (UCD) and a Teagasc Walsh Scholar. His work is driven by the Climate Action Plan for Ireland, which aims to reduce national GHG emissions by 51% by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality in Irish agriculture by 2050.
This research is vital because achieving these goals is a significant challenge for Irish agriculture, and traditional top-down approaches to emissions mitigation modelling have not provided a farm-specific understanding of mitigation costs and capacities. By complementing existing aggregate-level analysis with bottom-up research, he seeks to quantify the cost-effectiveness of a suite of novel measures for the abatement of greenhouse gases.
Consequently, his research has important implications for policy recommendations as it fits into the bigger picture of tackling climate change and promoting sustainability in agriculture. He is an agricultural economist with extensive experience working at the Ministry of Agriculture in Iran. He is passionate about developing solutions to pressing global challenges, including climate change. His expertise includes economic analysis, modelling, and policy recommendations.
