Relative values of Feeds for Low Protein Diet

Relative value of feeds, generated using barley and distillers grains, are suitable for high energy low protein diets, eg. finishing diets.

Please Enter in the Price at which you can source these two feed locally and click the Calculate button.
This will give the relative value of a range of feeds.

It is possible for the user to calculate the value of other feeds, not on the list, provided the user has
the UFV (unit of energy) and Crude Protein (CP) value of the feed, eg.

feed value per unit of protein = 0.11
feed value per unit of energy = 139.76

Assuming that the ingredient being evaluated has a UFV = 1.05 / kg DM and a CP = 200 g / kg DM,
the relative value of this feed is [(0.11 * 200) + (139.76 * 1.05)] = €168.75 / t DM or €147 / t fresh at 87% DM

Footnote

All wet feeds and forages above must be discounted to allow for losses. Assuming the silages (grass, maize & whole crop) are ensiled, losses of 10% should be discounted from the table above. Feeds including brewers grains, trafford gold and eornagold should be discounted by 10%. Fodder beet, sugar beet and potatoes should be discounted by 15% to allow for tare losses and additional labour.
