What is Beef-Quest?

Reducing the finishing age of beef cattle to 22-23 months by 2030 is a key strategy for the Irish beef sector. Achieving this goal will not only decrease the greenhouse gases (GHG) produced by cattle but will also reduce the overall costs of rearing animals, leading to increased profitability.

Beef-Quest is a vital initiative aimed at reducing the national finishing age for beef cattle, which is currently 3-6 months older than what's achievable on top-performing farms. By lowering this finishing age, we can significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions and increase on-farm profitability

The Beef-Quest project, is a recently funded project by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. In collaboration with ICBF and UCD, this project will use data currently available within the industry to map the lifetime live weight gain performance of the national beef herd.
