Sean Kearney

Sean KearneySean Kearney and his family milk 100 cows on their family farm near Kilbehenny, Co. Limerick on a milking platform of 46 hectares. Their cow type is a Holstein Friesian delivering 534 kg milk solids per cow, with an average herd EBI of 135 Euro. His grazing season length extends fron mid February to early November. His soil type is a moderately drained brown earth soil with a shale bedrock. He is  currently participating in the Soils Pilot Project in the Dairygold / Teagasc Joint Programme. Sean has found that regular soil sampling has allowed him quickly correct any issues around soil fertility. Through improving his soil fertility and regular reseeding, Sean has reduced his overall chemical fertiliser bill, increased grass growth and increased milk sales.
