Tom and Margaret Horan

Tom and Margaret Horan are farming just outside Cashel, Co Tipperary. They run a mixed dairy and beef entreprise, milking 110 cows and rearing their calves for sale as factory fit animals or as forward stores. Their cow type is a Holstein Friesian delivering 520 kg milk solids per cow, with an average herd EBI of 147 Euro. His grazing season length extends fron the middle of February to early November. His soil type is a well drained brown earth with a limestone bedrock. Tom and Margaret have excellent winter housing facilities and are happy with their current set up in terms of cow numbers. Their focus over the next few years will be on reducing their agricultural emissions and carbon footprint while improving milk solids production per cow and daily live weirgt gain of the animals in the beef entreprise.
