The Advisory service is provided by a team of 6 Pig Development Officers who deliver a comprehensive business and technology service. Pig Development Officers are strategically located around the country but still operate as a closely-knit team with individuals specialising in key areas of the industry.

They provide the following services:

• Herd performance monitoring
• Facilitation of discussion groups
• Organising workshops
• Organising the annual Teagasc Pig Farmers conference
• Composing monthly newsletters
• Meeting with Financial institutions
• Preparing the Feed and pig price monitor
• Representative on the National Pig Heath Council
• Consulting for Bord Bia Quality Assurance scheme
• Providing education and training
• Preparing technical articles
• Linking research and knowledge transfer
