Farm Plans

A detailed farm plan was drawn up for the farm and reviewed annually. A summary of details of the plan are laid out below:

Breeding policy

  • Increase ewe numbers
  • Produce prolific replacements
  • Deliver consistent replacement rate
  • Develop a maternal/terminal reciprocal cross
  • Target output of >1.6 lambs weaned/ewe joined

Grassland management

  • Address soil fertility issues
  • Increase grazing divisions (permanent and temporary)
  • Implement a reseeding plan
  • Measuring grass weekly using Pasturebase

Flock management

  • Delayed lambing date to coincide with greater grass availability
  • Winter shear ewes
  • Use extended grazing for ewe lambs
  • Improve silage quality
  • Target nutritional management
  • Defined winter management plan
  • Reduced emphasis on creed feeding of lambs
