Research Interests
Investigating enteric methane and nitrous oxide emission factors for sheep production systems and studying the nitrate leaching and denitrification in in a pasture based system.
My research is based on determining the effects that sward characteristics, the impact of genetics and management has on the production of harmful GHGs in a sheep system
Current Projects
- GreenBreed – Studying the impact of current breeding programs in beef, dairy and sheep on environmental footprint, production and animal health and welfare.
- Low N Sheep Systems – An investigation into reducing chemical N inputs and the environmental footprint of pasture based sheep production systems.
- INZAC – The validation of the Irish genetic evaluation through comparison with New Zealand genetics.
- Methane Predict – Development and validation of high throughput predictors for large capacity screening of methane emitting ruminant livestock at an individual and system level.
Publications
