Mary Kate Doherty

Soil Sustainability Technologist

Research Interests

My research interests include sustainable agriculture practices, in particular how certain practices affect soil carbon and soil fauna. I am also interested in the role of soil fauna and soil microorganisms in the soil carbon cycle. As a technologist I gain a wide variety of skills and insight into research needs, which I hope to utilise in my future studies.

Current Projects

I am currently working under the supervision of David Wall on the Soil Mission Support (SMS) project.

This project is focused on bridging the knowledge gaps in soil research and utilises stakeholder inputs to build towards future research and innovations in soil health. It engages the idea of “living labs”, which are sites where research is carried out alongside landowners and stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary approach to identify knowledge gaps and develop solutions. The primary goal for this phase of the project is to develop a roadmap towards healthier soils and future research.
