Profile

Derek Gibson graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Land Management in Forestry. Before joining Teagasc in 2018, he had previously worked in forest establishment and maintenance, and as a forest inventory operative.

He provides technical support to a team of researchers and students across the forestry research programme which includes the establishment, measurement and management of both broadleaf and conifer trials in Teagasc centres, and a number of field sites throughout the country.

These trials involve a range of forestry disciplines such as, broadleaf silviculture, tree improvement, continuous cover forestry, ash dieback, sustainable thinning, and remedial silviculture.
