Walsh ScholarResearch Interests
I am interested in various subjects such as tree phenology and physiology, temperate tree species responses to climate change, adaptation, assisted migration, forest ecology and resilience.
I am particularly interested at how climate change is impacting the tree-atmosphere interactions, physiologically, phenologically and ecologically.
Current Projects
I am currently working on the ADAPTForRes Research Project, which aims to increase the resilience of Irish forests to impacts of climate change. Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), the project will examine three pathways (adaptation, mitigation and protection) to reduce the risks as a result of a changing environment.
My work is focusing on assessing the effect of a changing climate on the growth phenology of one particular species, Sitka spruce, across a provenance range. I am trying to assess its adaptation potential, as there might be opportunities to use southern provenances for increased yield on selected sites.
