Advisory Support

  • Providing In-service training to Teagasc staff (4 – 5 per year); Individual consultation with farmers & Teagasc staff; Providing technical support to Teagasc staff, industry, DAFM and stakeholders; Programme development..

Support EU & National Policies / Schemes 

  • Assisting in the development / completion of issues relating to SFP/Cross Compliance, TAMS, Nitrates; Rollout of new NSIS & Sheep Grassland Scheme, DAFM KT programme, Sheep Welfare Scheme

Industry Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sheep Industry Stakeholders, ensuring their active involvement in joint events both nationally and at local level. Contribute articles to National Agricultural media including Irish Farmers Journal and Farming Independent. (2 – 3/ year), Work closely with Sheep Ireland – particularly with a view to the role out / dissemination; Work closely with Teagasc colleagues to deliver an effective BETTER Sheep farm programme. Active involvement with Bord Bia; Department of Agriculture Food & Marine and UCD.

  • Sward Stick for Grass measuring U-tube clips to educate target audience, Excel worksheets for various programmes;

Areas of Interest     

Lead technology transfer to Teagasc clients and the wider farming community.  Lead change through discussion group support and running large scale sheep events.  Provide training, coaching and mentoring plus technical support for agricultural advisers to give them confidence to perform their duties effectively. Support research projects and dissemination of research findings.  Articulate Teagasc Sheep Programme Priorities through printed media, radio interviews, one to one consultations and presentation at public events. Play full team role in development of National Dry-stock business plan, in particular the element relating to sheep. Stakeholder engagement to ensure the business plan reflects industry priorities.
