Profile

Noel Kennedy is a Forestry Development Officer for Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. He has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Forestry) degree from University College Dublin and is a technical member of the Society of Irish Foresters.

Prior to joining Teagasc, Noel spent several years in the private forestry sector in Ireland and the UK, working with a range of landowners specialising in forest establishment and management.

He joined Teagasc Forestry Development Department in 2001 as a member of a team of dedicated and experienced advisers.

Based in the Teagasc office, Roscommon Town, Noel offers an independent and objective forestry advisory service to farmers, landowners and forest owners in Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. The service focusses on promoting sustainable afforestation and timber mobilisation in the context of the need for farming sustainability, increasing timber supply and the provision of environmental services including greenhouse gas mitigation.

An essential aspect of Noel’s role is knowledge transfer to farmers and forest owners through farm/forest visits, advisory clinics, media presence and the organisation of public events.

Noel has a particular professional interest in empowering forest owners through knowledge building, the sustainable integration of forestry on farms, timber supply chain development and opportunities for tree planting on farms to enhance water quality and wider environment.
