Nuala Ni FhlathartaHead of Forestry Development Department
Dr Nuala Ni Fhlatharta is Head of the Forestry Development Department at Teagasc where she leads a team of forestry advisers and researchers.
The forestry advisory service is focussed on the needs of the farm forestry sector including forest establishment, management, harvesting and providing development support to forest owners and forest owner groups.
The main research areas include site classification, tree improvement, and conifer and broadleaf management and silviculture.
Nuala represents Teagasc at national and international level on forestry-related issues. Recent activities focus on increasing awareness of forestry and forestry promotion at national level, networking with forestry extension organisations at European level (FOREXT) and at international level (IUFRO Extension and Knowledge Exchange Working Group).
She has recently collaborated on several EU Horizon 2020 and Interreg proposals and has been involved in an EU Focus Group on Wood Biomass Mobilisation and EU Workshop on New Value Chains in Multifunctional Forests.
Nuala holds a primary degree in Forestry, a Masters in Rural Development and a PhD in Forestry.
