Profile
Jonathan Spazzi is the Teagasc Forestry Development Officer for Clare, Limerick and north Kerry. He has previously practiced as an independent forester in Ireland for over 15 years and during this period he concentrated on delivering best practice management of farm forests and native woodlands. In particular, his work has focused on integrating timber production and non-timber benefits through the use of Continuous Cover Management and Agroforestry Systems.
Jonathan holds a MSc in Forestry (Continuous Cover Systems) from Bangor University, a BSc (Hons) in Forest Management as well as other training in Forest Mycology, Environmental Science and Renewable Energy Technologies. He is a member of the Society of Irish Foresters and a committee member of ProSilva Ireland.
Along with providing advisory support on all aspects of farm forestry, Jonathan’s current development work focuses on assisting the development of new Continuous Cover Systems suitable to farm forestry, facilitating the development of new hardwood markets for Irish timber and reviewing adaptation strategies that will allow farm forests to better adjust to climatic change.
