Sample preparation guidelines for Irish mushroom producers
Mushrooms
Wrap a punnet in tissue or some absorbent material, place in a plastic bag and post sample in a rigid container with freezer blocks to keep sample cold.
Include the following details on a typed A4 page:
1. Mushroom strain (A15 etc...)
2. Compost supplier (Northway, Walsh etc..)
3. Flush and stage of flush (e.g. 1st Flush, coming to end of flush)
4. Comments on crop symptoms (e.g. Browning/ Poor development)
5. Test required (Virus, Mummy)
Compost
Take a representative sample (1kg approx.) and place in a, unsealed plastic bag. N.B. Do not make the bag airtight.
Post sample in a rigid container and include the following details:
1. Supplier
2. Growth stage (Bulk compost on delivery, First flush etc…)
3. Delivery date to your site.
4. Comments on crop symptoms if applicable.
5. Test required (Quality check, Virus test)
