Forestry Courses

Thi training will equip graduates with the knowledge skills and capabilities to take up employment in the forestry industry as forest supervisors or self- employed contractors or provide graduates with progression routes to forestry higher education.

Programmes:

The recommended training for someone seeking a career in the forestry sector is to complete the Teagasc  

Duration: The Level 5 Certificate in Forestry is one year, and the Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Forestry is one year.

Qualifications: These programmes are validated by QQI and lead to a Level 5 Certificate in Forestry (5M3425) and a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Forestry (6M4337).

Entry Requirements: There is a separate application process for each programme. Applicants must be over 17 years on 1 January following entry to the Level 5. Mature students are welcome. Students who have completed the Level 5 Certificate in Forestry are eligible to apply for the Level 6 Advanced Programme. Selection for places is by interview.

Location

The course is offered at Teagasc Ballyhaise College, Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan.

Progression

Students with the Level 5 Certificate in Forestry Programme can progress to the Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Forestry. Progression is also available through the higher education links scheme and advanced entry to BSc in Forestry at W.I.T. Please contact the relevant higher education institute for further information.

Employment: Many graduates progress into employment or self employment in the industry.
