Teagasc Education at Bloom and new courses in Teagasc Botanics
Teagasc Education and WIT partnered at this years Bloom festival on a shared stand in the floral pavilion. The stand was promoting careers in Horticulture and answered many queries from the public on courses that are in offer in both Kildalton and the Botanics Horticultural Colleges.
This year students are able to apply online through the Teagasc website to courses in Horticulture directly.Increasingly people are asking about part time options and in Teagasc Botanics we are offering more courses in Level 5. Our new module offerings include “Biodiversity and the Natural Environment”and “Turfgrass Establishment and Maintenance”.
These modules can be selected on an individual component basis which allows for students to take them on a part time basis.Th e module on Biodiversity is particularly interesting for anyone involved in the Hort sector or looking to find out more info on the natural environment that surrounds us. It will look at water quality , the effects of human activity on the environment and the role of biodiversity in the environment.
The Turfgrass module at Level 5 will look at the establishment requirement of turf grass , the maintenance of turf grass, the principal grass species and weeds of amenity turf and students will carry preparation of a lawn area from seed and sod and carry out a range of maintenance sills in accordance with best practice and legislation.
