Equine Courses
Teagasc Kildalton College full-time Equine education and training caters for two distinct programmes:
Horsemanship / Equitation Programme
Horsemanship / Stud Management Programme
Both programmes cater for the sport horse and thoroughbred industries. The duration of each of these is 2 years full-time at Kildalton College. Both programmes are validated by QQI and lead to a Level 5 Certificate (Year 1) and Level 6 (Year 2) in Horsemanship/Equitation or Stud Management/Horse Breeding.
- There is no minimum educational entry requirement to study at Kildalton College.
- Applicants must be 18 years old or over on the 1st January following entry to Year 1. For 2025 applications, applicants must be 18 by the 1st January 2026.
- Students with a Level 5 equivalent qualification may apply for entry to Level 6 programme. This process includes an interview and riding assessment.
Once students have completed this Level 5 award they may apply to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horsemanship Equitation or Stud Management.
Fees:
Currently the fees for this course are €990. This fee does not include accommodation and food costs. Please note: Where an applicant is the holder of a major award at Level 6 or higher, an additional course charge of €1,000 is applied.
Student Maintenance Grant:
Students completing this course are eligible to apply for the Teagasc Student Maintenance Grant Scheme. This equates with the rate of Maintenance Grant set by the Department of Education and Skills based on the number of course contact.
