Apprenticeships

Teagasc is delighted to progress the development of 5 land-based apprenticeship programmes in collaboration with Consortium Groups. Consortium Groups are representatives of industry, stakeholder bodies, Teagasc staff and graduates from Teagasc courses. National policy advocates the creation of new apprenticeships and Teagasc look forward to the launch of our new exciting apprenticeship options across 2022 and 2023.

The programmes are:

  • Sportsturf Technician (Higher Level 6) – 2 years
  • Horticulturist (Higher Level 6) – 2 years
  • Farm Technician (Higher Level 6) – 2 years
  • Farm Manager (Ordinary Level 7 Bachelor Degree) – 2 years
  • Assistant Stud Manager (Ordinary Level 7 Bachelor Degree) – 3 years

Teagasc has submitted proposed programmes for the first four apprenticeships to QQI for validation. The development of the Assistant Stud Farm Manager apprenticeship is being finalised and is expected to be submitted to QQI before the end of 2022 / early 2023. An Industrial Training Order must be signed into legislation by Government to establish each programme.

The minimum education entry requirements for each of the proposed apprenticeship programmes will be published subject to QQI validation approval. The minimum education requirements proposed is the leaving certificate for the following:

  • Sportsturf Technician (Higher Level 6) – 2 years
  • Horticulturist (Higher Level 6) – 2 years
  • Assistant Stud Manager (Ordinary Degree Level 7) – 3 years
  • Farm Technician (Higher Level 6) – 2 years

The minimum education entry requirement for the proposed Farm Manager (Ordinary Degree Level 7) is:
