EBI of the herd is €151 & the heifers are €194. 6 week calving rate is 78%. The cows produced 500kg MS/cow in 2020. Soil type is mainly red clay with some moor bog & heavy grey clay. Grass grown in 2020 was 12.7t DM/Ha. Facilities on the farm include a 6 unit parlour with cubicle space for 76 cows. The paddock system includes central roadways and spur roadways. Richard Starrett, Killendarragh, Lifford, Co. Donegal

Richard and his wife Wendy, farm near Lifford, Co Donegal. Richard’s parents, John and Audrey, also live on the farm. Supplying Aurivo Co-Op, they currently milk 160 spring-calving cows. The farm consists of 64Ha, made up of owned and leased land, with a milking platform of 54Ha. The overall farm stocking rate is 2.45 LU/Ha. Replacement heifers are contract reared. Herd EBI is €199. The herd produced 594 kg MS/cow and the farm grew 13.9t DM/Ha in 2020. The family was awarded the top prize in the NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards in that year also.
