Devenish Farms

The Devenish Lands at Dowth, Dowth, Co. Meath
The Lands at Dowth is a beef and sheep farm, surrounded by the River Boyne. The farm is c.180ha, with 91ha of grassland, some of which is leased to a neighbouring farmer. A grazing platform of 36ha at 2LU/ha is used for a research experiment called Heartland. Mid-season lambing sheep flock consists of 100 SuffolkX ewes, bred to Texel rams, rotationally co-graze with 80 heifers from the dairy herd (Angus or HerefordX) to finish from herbage only. The objective is to be carbon neutral by 2025 through research into carbon sequestration, soil improvement, multispecies swards and silvopasture.

Aclare 4 Farms Ltd., Kilasser, Co. Mayo
Aclare 4 Farms is a beef and sheep farm, located on the Sligo-Mayo border. The farm is c.100 acres of mixed heavy soil and bog land. The grazing platform is about 27ha and minority of that being roughly grazed. We are stocked at 1.1LU/Ha or 51.27Kg/N/Ha. The land is being grazed by 60 Stabiliser suckler herd with a goal to produce a carbon neutral beef carcass in 16 months. The aim of this project is to take a farm that was idle and unproductive and bring it to its productive potential in a sustainable manner with an eye for the future of farming and food in the West of Ireland.
