ASSAP advisors visit Ballycanew
As part of the new Agricultural Sustainability Support and Advisory Programme (ASSAP), a 30-strong team of dedicated farm advisors will be working closely with farmers to improve water quality. Initially the focus will be on 190 priority areas throughout Ireland.
On 2nd October, the group visited the Ballycanew catchment in Co Wexford to learn from ten years of work by the ACP team. On a number of catchment farms, the group investigated practical options for improving water quality. A wide range of possible measures were looked at including farm roadways, yards, fertiliser use, cover crops, etc. Identifying the important issues and the mitigation measures best suited for each particular farm will be a key part of the new advisors’ role.
