Regional groups visit Monaghan site

On the 15th of November, ACP staff John Kennedy and Tom O’Connell hosted a visit to the Corduff catchment from local farmers and regional organisations with an interest in water quality. At the local community centre participants were updated with findings from nearly ten years of catchment research. In addition, Patrick McCabe spoke about the drinking water project that is underway in Stranooden, Co Monaghan. This pilot will involve source protection planning for both groundwater and surface water sourced Group Water Schemes and more information is available here

Following light refreshments participants travelled to the nearby catchment bankside analyser and were able to check the water chemistry data in real-time. In addition, Mark Horton of The Rivers Trust done some kick-sampling in the stream and discussed the importance of water biological indicators.

Held as part of Cavan/Monaghan Science Festival, staff from the Waters & Communities Office, Teagasc advisory and Inland Fisheries Ireland also attended and their help is acknowledged.
