Drought affects stream N

Over the ten years of the programme a wide range of weather has been experienced in the six sites and with associated impacts on water quality. 2018 was marked by prolonged drought in Ireland and which had a significant influence on the stream nitrate concentrations in some catchments. These findings were presented at our stand at the dairy research open day in Moorepark held on 3 July. The below graph shows the stream nitrate levels in Ballycanew spiking in the last three months of 2018 and further information is available on pages 117-118 of the event bookletSpike in stream nitrogen levels following the drought of 2018
