High P loss in one day - Why?
In grassland applied Phosphorus accumulates in soil close to the surface and in high rainfall (on heavy or already saturated soils) most of the water is lost over the surface. In a typical year, eight or ten heavy rain storms carry over half the P lost to our rivers and lakes. For example, large P losses were recorded during a high rainfall event in January 2021 at our Ballycanew outlet analyser and Eddie Burgess, Catchment Specialist explains more in this video and an accompanying article on P management is available here.
