Our scientists develop state of the analytical tests for detection of residues in food using state of the art chemical instrumentation such as liquid or gas chromatography coupled tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS).
These technologies are validated and then applied to underpin the pure image of Irish food and troubleshoot potential residue contamination issues.
We also provide an ISO17025 accredited testing service to enable the Irish Agri-food industry to comply with EU food safety legislation and thereby gain access to valuable export markets. The residue laboratories cover a broad range of residues in food including:
- Veterinary drugs and pesticides in meat, milk, eggs, honey and fat.
- Biocides (namely quaternary ammonium and chlorates) in milk and dairy products.
- Mycotoxins in cereals.
We also coordinate the National Food Residue database, a unique resource of data which can be used by the Agri-food industry in its promotion of Irish food to export markets
