Visual assessment of silage quality

Pay Moylan, Teagasc Kilkenny outlines three simple ways in which farmers can analyse silage visually at the silage pit phase. These are looking at the colour & smell; how you assess dry matter and most importantly dry matter digestibility (DMD).

By doing these three simple tests at the silage pit phase, you can analyse your silage quality this year and decide on the appropriate feeding regime for your stock.
