Post-Mating Ram Management

Michael Gottstein, Head of Sheep Knowledge Transfer, Teagasc gives an overview of post mating management of your rams. The ram is the most expensive sheep on your flock so it it important to make sure that he is going to stay around for a good number of years and get a lot of service out of him.
Michael explains that an active ram during a typical 6 week breeding season will lose around 15% of their body weight so it is important to make sure that they put on most of that weight so that they are in good condition over the winter. Michael also highlights the importance of giving your ram a full health check at the end of the mating season.
